Support ended. Imaging PCs and front-desk towers are still running it. Here is the local, boring fix.
Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on 14 October 2025. That is not a rumour and it is not a sales slide. After that date the boxes still boot. They just stop getting the updates that keep a clinic or a trades office from being an easy morning for ransomware.
In Durham we still see it on imaging PCs, a front-desk tower that “has the old software,” and a bookkeeper laptop nobody wants to touch. Those machines are not a quirk. They are an unlocked door.
The simple fix: on a 20-minute call we list the computers, mark what can move to Windows 11 hardware you already own, and set aside anything that has to stay for a vendor who has not caught up. Then we put protection and a tested backup on the rest so one leftover box cannot take the week down.
